The Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant supports young and emerging photographers as they embark on their career in the world of photojournalism. We offer financial support, mentorship and ongoing assistance for the promotion of their work. Importantly, the recipient becomes part of a network of past recipients and an extended family of people who care deeply about the grant and believe in the importance of photojournalism. The grant started over three decades ago in honour of photojournalist Ian Parry who died while on assignment for The Sunday Times during the Romanian revolution in 1989 at the age of 24. Each year we hold a free and globally reaching open call and award The Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant which strives to spotlight new talent in photojournalism.

Words from our partners

‘I am so proud to be part of the Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant and its vital legacy. Meaningful documentary work takes time and commitment, dedicated research and the ability to form relationships and build trust, often under difficult or challenging circumstances.

In supporting the endeavours of young photojournalists trying to make their way and fund projects, as well as helping them to find a platform for their work, this grant provides a valuable opportunity to tell new stories and surface talent. So many previous recipients of the award have gone on to develop careers as world class photojournalists  but remain involved with the initiative that the mentoring and experience young candidates can benefit from is beyond measure.’

Fiona Shields, Head of Photography, The Guardian

‘Storytelling has always been at the core of Legacy of War Foundation, which is why we believe photography has the power to create real and sustained change. It is also a powerful tool in giving authorship to the communities we work with. We know the Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant shares those same values, which is why we are proud to be a partner, supporting the next generation of storytellers.’

Giles Duley, Founder and CEO, Legacy of War Foundation

‘As the world’s largest camera manufacturer, favoured by professionals and aspiring photographers alike, we are passionate about supporting the craft of visual storytelling and providing not only the tools, but also the opportunity, and platforms for up-and-coming talent to thrive. We are incredibly proud to continue our longstanding partnership with the Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant, and remain steadfast in our commitment to nurturing the next generation of professionals.’
